Proposal to be used for Grant to fund project.  Included in study was minimal teaching and distribution of computer books and zip disc drives.

English Language Workshops at Agricultural University and Community Evening Classes.

Community Infection Control discussions with Charity Clinic.

Suggestions resulting from collaboration in Nursing and Physician Classes (suggestions from MEDRIX and Hue Central Hospital Staff):

Infection Control Issues, Hospital:

Continue to work on separation of specific infectious diseases.  Examples: Separation of patients with measles, meningitis, and TB from patients who have ARI and pneumonia.

Use of Isolation rooms, presently being used for storage of equipment.

Encourage safe practice and protection for the health staff by:

Handwashing

Increase provisions for towels in each unit for hand drying after washing

Provide soap dispensors in each area (many presently do not function)

Cleaning equipment between patients

Use of gloves, masks, eye protection from "splash back"

The following is a brief summary of the activities of Dr. Robert Wills, Psychiatrists and Internal Medicine Physician.

Classes/ Workshops:

4 Classes and Workshops conducted at Hue Central Hospital Department of Psychiatry and Hue Medical School. 

*

Theme/Topics: Modern Psychiatry and Community Services for Psychiatric patients.  Discussions were conducted concerning modern intervention and treatment for the psychiatric patient including but not limited to:

-

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and how a practitioner can assist a patient in progress toward mental health. Included in the discussions were treatments, medical interventions and drug therapy

-

social system supports for the psychiatric patient and their family members. 

*

Supplies and Equipment provided: (approximately $10,000. USD, previously included in $43,000 of donated materials and equipment).  Including but not limited to:

Psychotropic Medications provided to the Psychiatry Department

Provision of Text Books & Mental Health Journals

Suggestions resulting from collaboration of participants including Physicians and nurses from departments of Psychiatry and Medical School.

Continued workshops/ discussions for staff members concerning current/modern treatment for mental illness and drug therapy.
