Planning and training for the 2002 Vietnam trip in March and April
begins early. The team's weekend retreat in late February helps the
team bond, learn about the Vietnamese culture and hone some skills
needed on the trip.
The ten-person team leaving for three weeks in Vietnam must take
critical supplies and equipment to support the work of the team. Items
such as a heart monitor, surgical supplies, textbooks, etc. all must
be carefully packed for the trip half way around the world.

Pat packs one of the two
specially designed boxes that each team member is responsible for on
the trip from Seattle to Hue, Vietnam |
 |
Shere packs "just a little bit more"
into one of her boxes. Supplies are drawn from the MEDRIX warehouse
that is stocked from equipment and supplies donated by local hospitals
and medical professionals. |

Ron and Pat finish some of
the endless paperwork required for the trip to Vietnam |

The 10-person traveling team
learns from those who have been on previous trips during the last nine
years |

Detailed planning for work
assignments -- the English teaching team discusses their plans |
 |
Tanya and Jay practice their
technique for using field kits to test water quality for minerals and
bacteria |
 |
Bob (our co-founder) takes time out
from packing to talk with Tony, a Seattle-area journalist for the
Eastside Journal, about the
goals of MEDRIX and answers the oft-asked question, "Who pays for all
this?". If you are wondering.....the answer is a myriad of small
donors who hear the story of the impact that MEDRIX has in the country
of Vietnam and want to help by making tax-deductible donations to
MEDRIX. The article was published on March 2002 (click
