MEDRIX approved a project to rehabilitate the Huong Van rural health clinic at the request of the medical staff of Hue Central Hospital.  The clinic was serving a commune of 8,500 residents and delivering one new baby every other day, all without running water.  The clinic building was structurally sound but in a poor state of repair.  Water used in the clinic was drawn by hand from an open well.  The latrine was inadequate for the clinic.  Furnishings were in a poor state of repair.  Medical supplies on hand were extremely limited.

Our objective in this project was twofold:

• Provide the medical staff a safe, clean environment with adequate equipment and supplies

• Provide the patients an atmosphere in which they can have hope for a brighter future

We accomplished this by:

• Painting the walls, inside and out

• Replacing the rusted louvered windows

• Re-wiring the clinic to support brighter lights and fans in each room

• Providing running water inside the building

• Building a new two-stall latrine with washroom

• Providing new medical equipment, supplies and furniture
