The Director of the Center for Fresh Water & Rural Environment
Hygiene, requested MEDRIX's assistance in developing water quality
testing procedures for the rural areas of Thua Thien province. In
March 2002, the MEDRIX team conducted water testing training in
the use of field test kits. Classroom and field training was
conducted for four staff members to test for iron, salinity,
nitrate/nitrites, pH, hardness, and pathogenic bacteria
contamination. A supply of testing materials was provided to the
staff to begin a systematic water testing program.

pathogenic bacteria - yellow color means sample is not contaminated
or that the test is still in process; black means that
disease-causing bacteria are present in the sample. This test takes
up to 48 hours to incubate
